prevalence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in patients infected with HIV by microscopical and molecular methods

چکیده مقاله:

Background:In some countries, one of the first and most common manifestations of HIV positive patients is tuberculosis (TB). HIV positive people are prone to other infections such as tuberculosis due to immune deficiency and reduced CD4+ cell count. Although increasing access to antiretroviral therapy has led to a reduction in HIV-related opportunistic infections and mortality, the simultaneous management of HIV/TB co-infection remains a challenge due to side effects, complex drug interactions, and overlapping toxicities. Material and Methods: This randomized study was conducted on the records of 100 patients with HIV who had been on antiretroviral therapy for more than 6 months. First, three sputum samples were taken from the patients and to staining and microscopic examination, then their blood samples were tested for CD4+ and viral load by real-time PCR molecular method. Results:The prevalence rate of tuberculosis infection in HIV positive patients was reported as 2%. The gender of both patients with HIV/TB was female, and the average age of both was 47 years old, they did not have jobs, their marital status was separated from their spouses, and their educations were under diploma. CD4 level and viral load in both patients have opposite relationship and it is significant(p<0/01). Conclusion:Tuberculosis is the most common opportunistic infection in HIV infected patients. With the lack of a vaccine for HIV and the lack of an effective vaccine for TB, it is necessary to design strategies to deal with HIV-TB co-infection.

Identification of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Complex, Using Molecular Methods

Abstract Background and Objective: A high level of homogeneity observed within all bacteria in the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex makes a property that seriously challenges traditional biochemical-based identification methods of these pathogens in the laboratory. The work presented here was conducted to characterize Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex isolates in Golestan, Northern Iran. ...

Tuberculosis patients co-infected with Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis in an urban area of Brazil.

In this cross-sectional study, mycobacteria specimens from 189 tuberculosis (TB) patients living in an urban area in Brazil were characterised from 2008-2010 using phenotypic and molecular speciation methods (pncA gene and oxyR pseudogene analysis). Of these samples, 174 isolates simultaneously grew on Löwenstein-Jensen (LJ) and Stonebrink (SB)-containing media and presented phenotypic and mole...

Detection of Isoniazid-Resistant Clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from India using Ser315Thr marker by Comparison of molecular methods

In this study, Substitution at codon Ser315 of katG gene, a reliable marker for isoniazid (INH) resistance was analyzed and compared by three molecular methods such as DNA  sequencing, polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and PCR-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) in 105 phenotypically resistant isolates obtained from various parts of Ind...

Molecular epidemiology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a South African community with high HIV prevalence.

To explore the relationship between human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis genotypes, we performed IS6110-based restriction fragment-length polymorphism analysis on M. tuberculosis culture specimens from patients with smear-positive tuberculosis in a periurban community in South Africa from 2001 through 2005. Among 151 isolates, 95 strains were identified within 26 fa...

Comparison of Flurochrome , Ziehl-Neelsen and Tan Thiam Hok Staining Methods for Detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Sputums of Patients with Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract Background and objectives: Direct smear microscopy, because of its simplicity, rapidity, low cost and relatively sensitive is a suitable method to detecting pulmonary tuberculosis. This experiment was aimed at determining the best method for detecting Mycobacterium tuberculosis among three kinds of staining methods: Fluorochrome, Ziehl Neelsen and Tan Thiam Hok . Material and Methods: ...
